Walking ; The Western Way, a renown walk that leads into Connemara starts some six mile out the Glann road near Lough Corrib.  The first part of the trail will take you all the way to Maam, a distance of 14km.
Other local walks include the Tonwee Wood Walk, which begins over the small bridge on the church side of town. Also, the Owenriff Way Walk, a walk through the town and along the banks of the Owenriff river.

Fishing
Oughterard is renowned world-wide for its excellent game angling in its Lough Corrib. There is also Coarse fishing available on the near-by Ross Lake. Fishing is a way of life for many that live in the area as well as a favourite pass-time for many of its visitors.
